AMC is proud to Unveil Successful Microboiler Retrofit for Improved Efficiency
Alpha Marine Consulting PC is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to maritime efficiency. We have successfully completed the integration of a Microboiler system connected to the exhaust of a Diesel Generator (D/G) onboard a Pure Car and Truck Carrier. This retrofit project aims to enhance the vessel’s operational efficiency by providing additional steam via the D/G, thereby reducing reliance on the main boiler and main engine for steam supply and achieving notable fuel savings and subsequent emissions.
The project commenced with phase I, an onboard assessment and 3D scanning to evaluate the as-built condition and available spaces for the new equipment installation. Phase II consisted of an extensive feasibility study exploring various solutions to accommodate the Microboiler, supply pumps, and electrical panels. Despite the challenges posed by the vessel’s previous Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS) retrofit and limited available space, AMC design team identified an optimal solution, by reconfiguring existing ladders and creating the necessary space near the D/G exhaust pipes. Phase III entailed detailed engineering, incorporating class and yard interfaces, and involved a thorough strength assessment of the new steel platform designed to support the 2.0 tons Microboiler, along with its supports and bracings. This phase also included the preparation of construction piping and arrangement drawings, new load weight estimations, and the development of production drawings, such as spools and outfittings, complete with detailed specifications and a bill of materials for the necessary repairs and works in the shipyard.
This addition to our portfolio exemplifies our commitment to fostering maritime innovation and efficiency. For further insights into AMC’s pioneering projects, we invite you to engage with us.
