Starting September 1st, 2025, Port State Control (PSC) authorities will launch a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) focused on Ballast Water Management (BWM),
based on the IMO guidance BWM.2/Circ.80/Rev.1 and relevant Flag State regulations.

What will PSC inspectors focus on? Key areas include:

  • Validity and accuracy of the Ballast Water Record Book (BWRB)
  • Operational readiness of the Ballast Water Management System (BWMS)
  • Crew training and familiarization with BWM procedures
  • Implementation of contingency measures for BWMS failures
  • Consistency across all documentation, logs, and system records

To support Shipowners, Managers, and Ship Personnel, Alpha Marine Consulting has updated its previous circular, taking into account the recently published PSC CIC questionnaire.

The revised version is supplemented with key focus areas to enhance preparation and ensure readiness. By systematically addressing these points, Companies and onboard teams will be better positioned to demonstrate compliance with the applicable requirements of IMO Circular BWM.2/Circ.80/Rev.1 and associated regulations.
