First Phase Completed: Detailed 3D Survey for Bulk-to-Cement Carrier Retrofit
Alpha Marine Consulting recently completed a critical on-site 3D laser scanning survey aboard a bulk carrier currently undergoing a major retrofit to be transformed into a cement carrier.
This phase marks a first step in capturing the exact as‑built condition and assessing spatial constraints ahead of feasibility studies and engineering design.
AMC’s expert survey team deployed advanced laser scanning technology to generate precise point‑cloud datasets, enabling our naval architects and engineers to:
- Accurately map existing structural layouts, piping runs, tank locations, and deck geometry,
- Develop high-precision as‑built 3D models for collision checks, modification planning, and design integration, and
- Minimize rework and downtime by informing early-stage retrofitting feasibility decisions.
The scanning scope included key areas such as the upper deck, cargo holds, and engine room, ensuring full spatial awareness for all critical retrofit zones.
With the comprehensive scanning survey now complete, AMC is advancing to the next stage of design development and structural adaptation, ensuring full compliance with classification society requirements and operational objectives. AMC extends its sincere thanks to the Messrs. Owners, local agents in Spain, and the AMC on-site and design teams for their exceptional coordination and technical execution.
Stay tuned for further updates as this cement carrier conversion progresses!
