Engineering for a Greener Future: Air Lubrication System (ALS) Integration on 172,000 CBM LNG Carrier
Alpha Marine Consulting is proud to announce its instrumental role in the successful design integration of the Silverstream® Air Lubrication System (ALS) aboard a 172,000 CBM LNG carrier.
This groundbreaking project was undertaken to achieve efficiency improvements and fuel savings while ensuring compliance with the latest Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) regulations,
ultimately enhancing the vessel’s environmental performance rating.
A cornerstone of this integration was the execution of detailed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses. These evaluations examined dynamic pressure coefficients and streamlines along the hull under 12 distinct loading scenarios and two reference speeds. The results of these studies were critical in identifying the optimal positioning of ALS air outlets, ensuring maximum operational efficiency and fuel savings.
In addition to the CFD analyses, AMC took full responsibility for the preparation of a comprehensive engineering and onboard integration package that addressed all necessary interfaces for both classification societies and the shipyard.
The delivery package included the following major topics:
- Piping and outfitting design: Ensuring effective and efficient ALS integration with minimal disruption to existing systems.
- Electrical system integration: Facilitating seamless connectivity and system functionality.
- Hull structural modifications: Implementing necessary reinforcements and adjustments to accommodate the ALS system.
Our design and electrical engineers ensured a seamless and efficient integration of the ALS system, setting the stage for improved vessel performance and compliance with stringent environmental standards.
This project is another addition to our portfolio that underscores our commitment to supporting the maritime industry’s transition towards greener and more sustainable operations.
