Design Verified, Safety Assured – Turning Complex Loads into Clear Solutions via FEA

At Alpha Marine Consulting, our Hull Discipline recently completed a finite element analysis (FEA) to verify the structural adequacy of a supporting platform and deck reinforcements designed to accommodate a machinery deckhouse on an Aframax Tanker. The model included the deckhouse, support structure, and upper deck area, and was assessed under the most adverse combinations of inertial forces, wind, gravity (with vessel heeled at 30°), and prescribed design pressures. Mesh refinement was applied in critical areas where stress gradients were higher, allowing for more detailed assessment of localized effects. Results confirmed that all stresses remained within allowable limits, with only minor localized effects. Based on these findings, the proposed design was deemed structurally sound and fit for installation, ensuring safety, compliance, and reliability.
